DESIRE LINE
In Desire Line, Nicolas Fojtu shares many roads and mountain paths wandered. These routes, solid and liquid, evident and hidden, thus become a mesmerizing inquiry. It is ever more difficult to fix lines on a map which are only pure projection or desire. Mountain routes transform invisible parabolas with their snowy peaks, ice-swallowed couloirs, and everlasting firns, all spiraling upwards, downwards, and sideways into a thousand human ways of narrating natures.
Desire Line tracks 1000 ski routes and leaves specific visual itineraries, as well as recent-in situ- maps from which 'route describers' have disappeared. The lines signify an inventory of our geographic knowledge. It is impossible to move, live, or do anything without leaving a trace, mark or suggestion. We are where we go, and these fragments of personal information left like two tracks in snow, make meanings in our lives.
